We recently received some exciting news from the Netherlands about the development of the Wylde Swan - a project that as you can see from the images, is a pretty big undertaking! But we wish them all the best and look forward to receiving further updates on her progress!
"In the finest traditions of Captain Willem Sligting's beautiful and successful Swan fan Makkum, we are proud to announce the arrival of the Wylde Swan, the world's largest two-mast schooner, for the maritime season 2010.
The building process of the Wylde Swan is well underway and is now firmly on schedule for the launch this year. The inspiration for the project, the late Captain Willem Sligting, was recently posthumously honoured with a Life Time Award for services to the Sailing Industry.
We are proud of his great achievements, and with the Wylde Swan we will continue his legacy by offering the sailing industry a distinctive ship. During the Kieler Woche the Wylde Swan will prove for the first time to be an exceptionally fast top sail schooner.
The Wylde Swan was conceived from its keel up to be used as a platform for sail training, while giving everyone on board the opportunity of a lifetime to learn about the sea and seamanship.
Furthermore, she is predestined to become a new classic with its design inspired by the large schooners of the turn of the 19th Century and its special hull. Her seaworthiness has already been proved on the North Atlantic and 90 years after her maiden trip as a steam-powered fishing boat the old hull will be sailing for the first time soon."
Great ship.. can't wait for it to be finished! yeah!
